Thermodynamics

This branch of Physics relates heat and temperature to energy and work. We will be doing calculations to convert between temperature scales, find the amount of heat gained/lost, and to determine the amount of Calories in various food items.

Warm-ups and exit Tickets

As discussed in class, we will be completing a warm-up EVERY DAY. Should time allow, an exit ticket will be also be done. The power point below is a collection of these activities.
  • Daily Projections ppt - As of 3/29

Please Note:
  • The 'As of' date will change each time the power point is updated.
  • Slides without dates are problems that MAY be used in the future.
  • At the end of the unit, any unused slide can be completed for extra credit.

special cases (Absent? ISS?)

Soda Can Lab Alternative (Calorimetry)-  Choose and complete the Calorimetry virtual lab, and print out your final results. This activity will take place of the lab activity done in-class (Wed. 3/23 or Thurs. 3/24)

Thermodynamics Notes

Notes and practice problems. Record the following in your notebook. Warm-ups will be graded along to the way to check for participation.
  • Introduction- Vocabulary and specific heat practice
  • Heat Transfer- 3 types and examples
  • Uses of Thermal Energy

Extra Credit

As we complete the unit, some intended assignments will not be completed in class. Below are these extra assignments that, if completed, can replace a similar assignment, or earn student a maximum of 5pts on the test. (At least 70% accuracy is required.)
  • Temperature Scales: Facts and History
  • Hot and Cold WS

Heat test- 4/6 or 4/7

Heat Jeopardy Review

Practice Assignments

Most practice will be done on separate pages that will be handed in to the teacher. A checklist of these assignments, their due dates, and the last date they will be accepted is listed below. This list will also be visible in class as a poster.
'Get stamped' and Sub work are in-class participation only, and will not be accepted late!
